CaYPT Organizing Committee

The CaYPT Organizing Committee consists of high school and undergraduate student volunteers. We work to organize CaYPT national tournaments, run the national camp and support Team Canada in the annual IYPT.

Committee Directors

Jim Chen

Director of CaYPT

Jim is a graduate student studying physics at the University of Toronto. His research interest is in experimental condensed matter physics and in particular, nanostructures. He was an IYPT participant from 2016 to 2018 and worked as an IYPT Team Leader for Canada since 2019.

Dave Singh

Associate Director of CaYPT – External Affairs

Dave is a 3rd-year mechanical and aerospace engineering student at Princeton University. His research interests lie in experimental nuclear physics, autonomous robotics, machine learning, computer vision. He was an IYPT team member and captain in 2018 and 2019, respectively. He has been working as the IYPT Team Leader since 2020.

Andrew Mao

Associate Director of CaYPT – Internal Affairs

Andrew joined the CaYPT Committee in 2019 and began developing the CaYPT Management System(CaYPTMS). His current work involves leading his team to develop and maintain the information infrastructure of CaYPT.

Xiongxiong Pei

Treasurer, General Secretary

Xiongxiong is a 2nd year student currently studying at Duke University. Her research interests lie in nanomaterials and low-dimensional nanoelectronics. She was an IYPT participant in 2020 and 2021 and a former team captain at CaYPT.

Oscar Sun

HR Coordinator

Oscar is a senior year student at St. Robert Catholic High School. He is interested in biomedical engineering and neuroscience. He participated in national camp in 2021 and 2022, and was the acting student supervisor for the camp in 2022.

Ian Lu

Facility Manager

Ian is currently a grade 12 student at St. Robert CHS and has participated in CaYPT and as a team member for Canada in the 2022 IYPT. He enjoys designing and building experiments at the lab and will answer any questions people may have. He will be giving lab tours and routine instructions to new visitors of the lab and he hopes to meet new people at the lab! Keep the lab clean or he will find you (:

Information Team

Leo Liu

Information Team Lead

Leo Liu is the lead of the information team for the upcoming CaYPT, which marks his third year of involvement with the tournament. He is a grade 12 student attending Crescent School in Toronto, Ontario.
Leo has previously worked on the tournament’s management and timing systems, he also served as a timer for the two previous years. He is passionate about Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, and he looks forward to managing the information aspects of this year’s tournament.

Darren Chu

Information Team Member

Darren is a grade 11 student at St. Robert Catholic High School. He is part of the information team in the CaYPT committee and helps test the functionality of the website. He is interested in physics problems and is not afraid to understand concepts through experimentation.

Daniel Yang

Media Manager

Daniel is a first-year engineering student at Princeton University. He attended Natoinal Camp in 2019, was the Canadian IYPT team captain in 2020 and 2021, and worked as a National Camp supervisor in 2022. He is currently the media manager for the CaYPT committee.

Olivia Xu

Social Media Manager

Darren is a grade 11 student at St. Robert Catholic High School. He is part of the information team in the CaYPT committee and helps test the functionality of the website. He is interested in physics problems and is not afraid to understand concepts through experimentation.

Emily Xu

Media Team Member

Emily is a senior at University of Toronto Schools. She enjoys studying physics and math, and in her free time she’ll be reading, skating, or hanging out with friends. She was a National Camp participant in 2021 and 2022, and was the IYPT Team Captain in 2022.

Dennis Lu

Community Manager

Dennis is a twelfth grade student in the IB program at Victoria Park Collegiate Institute. He started participating in the CaYPT in Grade 9 and has since made the OYPT team in Grade 10 and 11. He was also the team captain for his school in Grade 11.

Celena Guo

Social Media Team Member

Celena is a 11th grade student studying at University of Toronto Schools. She participated in CaYPT and OYPT in 2022. As a Social Media Team Member, she helps manage the CaYPT social media accounts.

Hi! My name is Tian, and I am a grade 12 student from Vancouver, BC. I participated in the 2022 CaYPT and I am very excited to serve on the community engagement branch!

Tracy Zhang

Student Resources Coordinator – Operations

Tracy is a first-year student at Princeton University. They were an IYPT team member in 2020 and 2021 and National Camp Student Supervisor in 2022.

Arsha Niksa

Student Resources Coordinator – Exploration

Arsha is a 2nd year undergraduate student, studying Mathematics and Physics at Sharif University of Technology. He participated in the 2020 OIYPT as a member of Team Iran. He is now involved in the student resources team of the CaYPT committee and helps with computational physics tutorials.

William Deng

William is a 12th grade student in the IB program at St. Robert Catholic High School. He was the team captain of the 2022 OYPT team. In his spare time, he likes to play tennis and piano.

Archie Shou

Co Editor-in-Chief of CaYPT SOP

Archie is a grade 11 student at the University of Toronto Schools. He is interested in building experiments, 3D printing and python image analysis. He was an IYPT participant and camp member in 2022.

Jeffrey Li

Co Editor-in-Chief of CaYPT SOP

Jeffrey Li is a senior at Oakville Trafalgar High School. He is a math and physics enthusiast and was the OYPT participant in 2022 representing Canada. Other than physics and math, he also has won several medals in various national and international business competitions. In his free time, Jeffrey enjoys playing table tennis, badminton, and piano.

Nathan Wang

Nathan is an 11th grade student at the University of Toronto Schools. In 2022 he participated in the CaYPT National Camp working on the IYPT problems. He is now involved in student resources for the CaYPT committee and contributes to the computational tutorial project.

Julia is a first year student studying mechatronics engineering at the University of Waterloo. Her research interests center around automation, robotics, and machine learning. She was an IYPT National Camp participant in 2021, as well as a student supervisor as of 2022.
