About STEM Fellowship
STEM Fellowship is a Canadian charitable organization that empowers students and educators to become active and motivated partners in knowledge sharing and acquisition.
Our student-driven experiential learning programs target analytics, research, and scholarly communication. Our goal is to foster digital citizens of the future.
We are currently present on 20 university campuses and over 50 high schools in over 8 provinces and are still growing!
Our Mission
To create equitable learning opportunities, connections, and experiences for students to develop modern skills for the digital age.
How do we make a difference
We connect students and foster future thought leaders across Canada and around the world through our ambassadors, university branches, high school chapters, and partnerships.
We provide high school and undergraduate students with their first opportunity for scholarly publication while enabling them to develop scholarly writing skills through workshops and our Scholarly Writing Challenge.
We foster inclusion and diversity in STEM fields by creating mentorship and research opportunities for students from communities traditionally underrepresented in STEM.
We deliver unique experiential learning programs in scholarly communication and data science for high school and undergraduate students.
Our Impact
STEM Fellowship utilize mentorship and experiential learning to equip the next generation of change-makers with indispensable skills in data science and scholarly writing. We bid to give opportunities to students that self-identify as coming from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.
Students from the following backgrounds qualify under the underrepresented student category:
- Indigenous or of Indigenous ancestry
- Socioeconomically disadvantaged
- Rural students
- New immigrants
- Refugees
- Other

Testimonials
The STEM Fellowship High School Big Data Challenge was an incredible experience. The Challenge
helped me develop skills in the field of analytics, and taught me the importance of big data in the
modern world; the mentorships, online training, and connections I received were invaluable.
I have always found a love for both biology and coding, and the program has shown me how a job in
research could integrate these together. This internship has sparked a greater passion for research
in me, and I might be one of the mentors one day, looking to pass the baton to future generations.
Being an intern at an actual lab was a genuinely life-changing experience. It changed my entire
opinion on university, my expectations from a potential career in academia. I would like to sincerely
thank the members of the McMillen lab for making my March Break as rewarding as possible.
Participating in this internship organized by STEM Fellowship has been one of the most rewarding
experiences in my life. One of my favourite aspects of this internship was being able to talk with a
variety of people in various stages in their medical research career.
I cannot express my gratitude towards STEM Fellowship enough. Not only has the Big Data
Challenge catapulted me into the world of data analytics and scientific research, but it has also
introduced me to supportive mentors across industry and academia.
