STEMpowerment Mentorship Program

One of STEM Fellowship’s key objectives is to establish a scholarly and innovative network of students which transcends geographical, cultural, and socioeconomic borders. To achieve this vision, we are currently introducing our STEMpowerment Program, which specifically focuses on providing free academic support and peer counselling for youth who are members of communities that have been traditionally underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). In this context, traditionally underrepresented groups are those with a disproportionately low presence in the field of STEM. As our organization’s name implies, the primary goal of this program is to cultivate student talent and innovation in the fields of STEM. Our program will pair undergraduate or high school mentors with mentees based on their mutual areas of interest. Depending on the geographical distance between the mentor and mentee, the method of communication could be either online or in-person. Furthermore, the focus of coaching can be career, life, or academic based, again depending on the mentee’s needs. Possible examples include guiding mentees to discover their passions, explore possible career options, and even conduct their own research. Through this program, we hope to enable each and every youth, no matter what their background is, to explore their passions in STEM fields.
