University of Calgary Branch
We seek to enable students to learn collaboratively, express their passion for science and expand the scope of human knowledge through scientific inquiry. We provide a community where STEM students can both learn and thrive.
Throughout the year, our branch holds workshops that provide undergraduate students with the techniques and technologies they need to succeed in STEM.
We deliver interactive presentations in high schools throughout Calgary in order to encourage and inspire students with learning disabilities to consider career paths in STEM.
An insider look into potential career paths for STEM students. Hear professionals in various STEM fields talk about their careers and gain a deeper understanding of the path to and everyday nature of numerous scientific professions.
DATA SCIENCE WORKSHOPS
In preparation for the nationally-recognized Big Data Challenge, we host workshops to equip students with the skills necessary for future success in data analysis.
BIG DATA CHALLENGE
Students participate in a team-based research project where they analyze Canadian big data sets to discover trends and patterns in their communities, as well as identify issues and present solutions to them. It is a multi-disciplinary competition that enables students to mine open-source data and use it to analyse socioeconomic and environmental issues.
Our internship program offers a unique opportunity for high school students to experience cutting-edge scientific research in a University of Calgary laboratory over spring break. Our program is targeted towards underrepresented students, such that those who self-identify as Indigenous students, students from rural areas, refugees and new immigrants.
